EHMA Sustainability Award by Diversey Care 2020 goes to Emmanuel Sydney Manousos

The prize is awarded in cooperation with DIVERSEY to an EHMA member who successfully implemented an innovative sustainability project during 2019.  This exclusive award is dedicated to General Managers who have succeeded in implementing and promoting sustainable hospitality actions by means of environmental protection and preservation during the preceding year. Every year the EHMA Sustainability Award is organized in cooperation with Diversey, company specialized in the supply of sustainable and innovative cleaning and hygiene solutions.  Having reached the ninth edition of the award, it has become increasingly clear that EHMA members have embedded sustainability deeply in their operations and culture. The hospitality industry in general is raising the bar on sustainability and the circular economy in particular; EHMA General Managers are taking active roles ensuring sustainability and social responsibility are part of the properties’ business plans. Plastic straws and single use packaging are some of the obvious targets, but circularity of resources and materials is being integrated into hotels and their operations in new and innovative ways and in a variety of activities, as demonstrated by this year’s competing projects. The members of the jury, composed by former EHMA Treasurer Johanna Fragano; Dr. Ing. Arjan van Rheede, Hotelschool The Hague; and Daniel Daggett, Executive Director Sustainability at Diversey. After a thorough discussion have chosen Manolis Manousos as the worthy winner of the EHMA Sustainability award by Diversey 2020 for the sustainable actions enacted at the Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa in Crete.
Under the guidance of Manolis Manousos, the Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa in Crete has undertaken 360-degree initiatives demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainability by addressing the challenges of climate change with the objective of leading the way in sustainable tourism in Crete.
